Spay/Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP)
In 2005 HART
initiated it's Spay/Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP)
offering low cost spay/neuter/vaccine of dogs and cats,
to families unable to afford this basic vet care.
Funds to
initialize this program were granted 2005, 2006 from
International Fund for Animal Welfare and Pet Smart
Charities. Hoping to sustain this valuable program, HART
has annually canvassed funds from the 13
municipalities whose constituents benefit from it.
Many of the 13 municipalities have no animal control
services.
To date,
HART has been met with limited financial support from
the majority of those municipalities.
A forerunner
in animal welfare, this program continues to be
sustained by the creation of funds by HART volunteers.
SNIP is an
application process and requires a financial statement
to be attached.
Working with
area veterinarians and a special schedule of fees,
applicants are approved at a cost of $50 per cat and $75
per dog. Over 2 appointments the animal is provided vet
check/vaccines and then appropriate altering surgery.
This
valuable program has already made considerable impact on
the number of puppies and kittens coming to our rescue
door.
SNIP would
be impossible without the cooperation of our rescue
minded veterinarians and staff.
